OMG!

That detective needs to have his own film.

First of all, I didn't know about this movie until about two weeks ago. So, it wasn't in my 'to-watch' list 2011. Then, I saw the poster during Transformer, and I went hey! Takeshi has a new movie. It looks interesting from the synopsis (a man hiding his kung-fu skills because of his past, but has to bring it out when his village is in danger). Then, I watched the trailer. It features Takeshi in glasses, being quirky and eccentric, swaggering on the field as if this world belongs to him (which it did, no excuse there). Can't wait to watch it now.

But there's more to Xiu Baiju than meet the eyes. He's quirky alright, obsessed and due to an incident in the past, he has created a doppelganger to remind himself NOT TO BE A NICE GUY. And it shows- the villagers think the detective is annoying, while the audience think OMG WHAT DID HE JUST DO??! It was amusing to see. He's the character that moved the story. And he's engaging when he's on the screen. Not to mention, his doppelganger broke my heart in the end.

Donny Yen doesn't do for me much in his normal scene. Surprisingly, I didn't feel connected to his family. However, you want to watch Donny Yen because of his action scenes. He delivers. My favourite is the second fight, with an equally awesome Kara Hui. Gosh, I think I'm turning lesbian for her. She's so fierce. I wish I look that good at her age too.

I watched the Cantonese version, thus, missing the much-talked about Takeshi's Sichuan's accent. The film runs for an almost two hours, quite long, but at the same time, I can't take my eyes off the screen. It's good and it made me wanna watch Ip Man next. LOL. Could this be the best film of the Summer for me? It could definitely be.
